This paper will discuss the security of the network and the details of the hardware choices that will be used in it. Security Hardware and Software Between every network and the outside host of threats there is a first line of defense. For almost every network this will be a firewall. A firewall can be both hardware and software and is usually a combination of the two. A firewall creates a barrier between networks. Any outside computer or client must pass through the firewall to access the network or its resources. Only a computer or system that has proper access can easily access a network protected by a properly configured firewall. Though it is not infallible, a firewall is the first and perhaps best means of security available to a network. The Kudler Fine Foods network will have firewalls installed and configured at each location. These firewalls will be designed to allow access from authenticated users inside the network. Communication outside of the network should be minimal and not available from unauthenticated sources. Customers do have the ability to access certain account information from the Kudler Fine Foods website. These accounts allow them an authenticated login to the webserver which can access the firewall and the specific account information behind it. Customers themselves do not have access to the network or its files. A truly secure network does not rely on a firewall alone. Individual devices still require their own security measures installed on them. Ethernet cabling uses twisted pair cabling to transmit data and connect devices with a universal technology. Networks use a system of routers, hubs, and switches connected by Ethernet cable. Routers are gateways between networks; these are frequently combined with other devices like a modem. Hubs create a connection point between sections of a network.  Hubs function by relaying frames received to all clients. Hubs are â€Å"dummy† technology in that they do not analyze the frames coming to them and do not relay them specifically to the intended recipient. Instead they transmit any received frame to all clients connected to them. This is a quick, cheap way of ensuring data is transmitted, but it does create large amounts of extra network traffic. A smarter and more expensive piece of equipment contemporary to the hub is the switch. A switch does the same function as the hub but is smarter than a hub. While hubs simply repeat their information to all clients, switches scan the frames that come to them and determine the recipient address. This way the switch can forward the frame to the proper client without tying up more network resources than necessary. Conclusion The Kudler Fine Foods network upgrade will be constructed on Ethernet technology, just as it is now. The fundamental construct will involve use of these hardware technologies and will include switches and routers. The book focuses on a bomb group, more specifically a squadron in which a bombardier named Yossarian is assigned to. Yossarian is very upset because all these people he doesn’t even know (the Germans) are trying to kill him. The novel is very hard to understand because of the way it is written. It is helpful in books about the military to have a time-date group so you know what is going on. This book doesn’t have that and is so full of flash backs and flash-forwards that it made my head spin. It wasn’t poorly written but it was hard follow. It has many technical errors such as having helicopters for search and rescue while helicopters weren’t used in military service until the Korean War. The story is a good one but paints a picture of military life as a joke almost. Most of the servicemen in this book had no discipline and did pretty much as they pleased. Yossarian goes through the whole story trying to get out of his squadron and go home. His problem is the commander of the group keeps raising the number of missions required to fly before the rotate home. Every time he gets close the raise the number on him again. Through it all he tries all these schemes to get sent home he acts sick and tries to act crazy. When he tries to acts crazy he thinks that he has a perfect plan to get sent home since there was a rule that anyone who was crazy was unfit to serve in the rigors of combat, but the rule said they had to ask to be grounded. When he goes to get himself grounded he discovers there is a catch. Catch-22 says that anyone who asks to be grounded is not crazy because recognizing danger is the process of a rational mind and anyone with a rational mind is not crazy. That is the main story line of the book.

Essay on Crito Essay on Crito Essay on CritoCrito in Plato’s dialogue tries to persuade Socrates to escape from prison, where the philosopher is awaiting his punishment. In this essay we will analyse Crito’s arguments and Socrates’ counterarguments.Crito’s arguments are mostly based on a basic premise that the opinion of the many must be taken into account by the individual. Hence, the predominance of such arguments in Crito’s speech. He states, for example, that if Socrates won’t escape, people will believe that he and other friends of Socrates were able to help, but that they did not care to or valued money more than the life of their friend. Also, later on in his speech, Crito points out that â€Å"I  am ashamed not only of you, but of us who are your friends, when I reflect  that this entire business of yours will be attributed to our want of courage† (Jowett, 2009). Apart from these â€Å"social† reasons, Crito states some personal reasons. If Socra tes is executed, he will lose a dear friend. He assures Socrates in their full support and confirms his right to manage their wealth in any way, which could facilitate philosopher’s escape. On the other hand, Crito reminds him of his enemies, who would be pleased to learn about Socrates’ demise; he reminds the philosopher about his children, who would lose a father and would be destined to live in hardship.Socrates, in contrast, holds to the belief that the opinion of many is not important. A man, an individual, must heed the opinion of those who have understanding of the matter. From this premise stem all further Socrates’ objections to Crito’s arguments. Socrates believes that â€Å"neither injury nor retaliation  nor warding off evil by evil is ever right† (Jowett, 2009). A man must do only what he thinks is right to do. In this way, Socrates proves, that by escaping he will wrong the state and its laws, as well as its people, with whom he had so long resided. By an act of defying the laws of the state the individuals leads that state to eventual destruction, for he creates a precedent, by which anyone who is not satisfied by a certain law is able to defy it. Even if the accusations are unjust (as it is in Socrates’ case), a convict must persuade the judges otherwise or silently obey the sentence. As a professor of true virtues, Socrates would betray his own ideals by doing wrong to the state, which had raised and educated him, and with which he has a pact, sealed willingly. More so, he claims that even should he escape, he would be seen as a lawbreaker and scorned for it in any other state, and in areas which have no laws, he will be a curiosity, a clown to laugh at, but not to be respected: â€Å"You will live, but how? – as the flatterer  of all men, and the servant of all men; and doing what? – eating and drinking  in Thessaly, having gone abroad in order that you may get a dinner. And  wh ere will be your fine sentiments about justice and virtue then?† (Jowett, 2009). About his children he says that it would be unfair to deprive them of Athenian citizenship. Finally, if he does no wrong, he will depart his life as a victim of men, a martyr that follows the sacred laws of justice.As we had proven by the present argument analysis, the only possible solution to Socrates’ situation was to obey the laws of his motherland and stay in prison despite Crito’s urging him to escape. As a philosopher and a truly wise man, Socrates had understood this and stayed firm in his decision, though he was obviously tempted by the possibility of escape. But he held his ideals of justice and virtue dearer than the reminder of his life, that he could prolong by his escape.

The portrayal of his character compared to that of the other boys is entirely different. Throughout the play, Posner is shown to be an outsider; too young to understand most things, and even to be included in Hectors inappropriate behaviour. It is evident from the start that Posner has feelings towards Dakin, however Dakins behaviour towards Posner is far from romantic, hence we can sense that he doesnt return the romantic feelings that Posner so desperately desires. This immediately creates sympathy for him, as it shows that he has no hope of happiness with the person whom he clearly loves. As the play progresses and develops, we can see that Posner is confused about his sexuality and is tormented by the idea that hell never fit in anywhere. He confesses his feelings and worries to Irwin who sympathises, however this does nothing to comfort Posner. As the other boys begin to change their attitudes towards life and learning, Posner seems to remain the same and spend more time with Hector. This could be viewed as very odd behaviour, as the other boys seem keen to avoid any time alone with Hector due to his ephebophilia. This, again, highlights the fact that Posner is extremely lonely and confused, therefore is willing to seek comfort with even the most inappropriate of people. When the disastrous event of the motorcycle accident happens at the end of the play, we are given an insight into just how much it affected the boys in years to come. While it seems that the others have moved on in life, Posner is described to have periodic breakdowns and to have been the only one that truly took everything to heart. This proves that Posner was really affected by those particular years of his life, despite the fact that he was never directly targeted by Hector. Overall, Posner is presented as a confused, lonely character which generates large amounts of sympathy from the audience.

The Narrator as Literary Device in “Luck,” by Mark Twain

Mark Twain uses the narrator as a literary device in his short story, â€Å"Luck.†Ã‚   The author first uses his own voice to give the story an air of authenticity.   He then changes narrators, building on the original air of authenticity to create a second authentic narrator.   By using the literary device of a first person point of view for both narrators, Twain is able to manipulate not only the actions that take place in the story, but he is also able to manipulate the reader’s understanding of, and his or her opinion of, the characters and events in the story. The narrator that an author chooses creates the perspective of the story.   The narrator is rarely synonymous with the author; however, it is not an unheard of occurrence for the two to be identical.   Twain is briefly the narrator of this story, given that he manipulates the readers’ perspective by declaring this story to be a true one and not â€Å"a fancy sketch† (Twain page). He increases this authenticity by signing his initials to the statement, thereby injecting himself into the action of the story.   Because this practice is not a common one in fictional stories, although it was more common at the time that this story was written than it is now, Twain’s â€Å"appearance† in his own fictional work gives it a suggestion of being a work of nonfiction. The first person narrator that Twain chooses to tell the majority of the story is ostensibly a unnamed clergyman, formerly a â€Å"cornet† (second lieutenant) in the British army under a lieutenant-general the first narrator gives the pseudonym â€Å"Scoresby.†Ã‚   Simply by setting the fiction of the need for a pseudonym for the lieutenant general, Twain has created the suggestion of literal truth for the story about to follow.   The second narrator, however, is an unreliable one. By stating that Scoresby’s success comes solely from luck, it is clearly apparent that the clergyman’s opinion would differ from that of the lieutenant general.   There is some question as to why these opinions would differ, at least from the clergyman’s perspective.   While it should come as no surprise that Scoresby would certainly prefer to characterize his success as deriving from skill, the clergyman could have one of three reasons for having a different opinion.   All of these reasons extend from his knowledge of how Scoresby came to be a member of the military.   First, it is possible that Scoresby is truly an inept, but lucky, man. The reader is left to reason for him or herself whether Scoresby could possibly be that fortunate.   Twain relies on the knowledge that many people have had surprising luck in their lives, or know of people who have had such luck.   By failing to mention names of actual battles and by failing to provide the â€Å"real† name of the lieutenant general in question, the series of events might seem plausible. Second, clergyman might be operating from a feeling of guilt that he allowed Scoresby to cheat his way into the military without speaking up about his role in that cheat.   His guilty feelings might color his perspective on Scoresby’s actual successes.   After all, having gotten into a military school, it seems logical that Scoresby might have learned some practical knowledge and skills no matter how he came to be enrolled. The narrator appears to be unwilling to acknowledge this fact, however.   Finally, the clergyman might be operating from the desire to have his name attached to that of a successful man.   By crediting himself for getting Scoresby into the school while at the same time denigrating the lieutenant general’s own skills and knowledge, the clergyman makes himself more important in his own military role–at least in his own eyes. Twain uses the role of the narrator as a literary device for controlling the reader’s perspective of the subject of the story.   By injecting a first person narrator into the action of the story, Twain creates a situation whereby the reader’s perception is easily manipulated.   Ultimately, however, the reader is left to decide on the authenticity of the story, due to the unreliability of the narrator.   Ã‚  In the end, the reader must decide on the actual role of both the narrator and of the possible role of luck over the course of Lieutenant-General Scoresby’s career. Aikin and State Representative Claud Gilmer organize committees to reform education system (Gilmer-Aikin laws); teachers’ salaries and standardization of teaching credentials established (Erekson, 2010, p. 1033) 1957 – Assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of the Gilmer-Aikin laws (Texa s Education Agency, 2011). 1984 - House Bill 72 increased teachers’ salaries and restructured school financing enabling a shift of resources from wealthier school districts to poorer performing districts (Texas Education Agency, 2011). 2001- No Child Left Behind (U.S. Department of Education, 2011). Reforms and Revisions The development of the education system, management agencies, state municipalities, along with individual school districts throughout the State has been an ongoing process. Pivotal events in the United States’ history such as the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and integration influenced the formation of the education system in Texas. From the inception and establishment of the first public school in 1840, leaders, elected administrators, and lawmakers sought ways in which to deliver the highest quality of education available for the residents of Texas (Texas Education Agency, 2011). Provisions for permanent funding for the education system did not occ ur until 1845 in which the Permanent School Fund was created. The fund created specific financing options for educating students in Texas; its purpose was to lighten the burden on citizens paying taxes and to produce an alternate way of funding public education. The predecessor of the Permanent Sch
